PVC is one of the most widely used polymers
PVC is one of the most widely used polymers, which due to its versatility can be used in many applications.
To allow the desired performance to be achieved, PVC must be mixed with various substances.
Some of the additives used in past formulations are no longer allowed today due to their proven or suspected effects on health and / or the environment. Among these in particular we mention lead, cadmium and DEHP.
Although the industry has replaced these substances, having many of the applications a “long life” these are still present in the current PVC waste.
In order to prove that the recycling of this waste is also safe, VinylPlus (the Voluntary Commitment for the sustainable development of the European PVC chain) has developed in recent years some studies that show how the exposure of workers and consumers and the release into the environment are extremely low.
The objectives of these studies and their conclusions are summarized in the document available in Italian in the following link 7 STUDIES ON MIGRATION
