Vinylplus ® undertakes to recycle 900,000 tonnes of PVC per year by 2025

Vinylplus ensures PVC space in the heart of the circular economy

From 2000 Vinylplus, the voluntary commitment to the sustainable development of the industry European PVC, was a pioneer in the circular economy. Vinylplus has followed the request of the European Commission of voluntary commitments to increase the recycling of plastics by committing itself to recycle at least 900,000 tonnes of PVC per year in new products by 2025, a significant contribution To the overall target of 10 million tonnes set by the Commission for the plastics industry. Looking further, Vinylplus has also pledged to recycle at least 1 million tonnes per year by 2030.

“For almost 20 years, Vinylplus has paved the way for a circular economy by improving the sustainability performance of PVC. As our programme brings together the entire supply chain – PVC producers, additives manufacturers, converters and recyclers – we have responded immediately to the Commission’s request for voluntary commitments from the plastics industry. We welcome this initiative, which highlights Vinylplus’s foresight to define its first voluntary commitment, ‘ says Brigitte Dero, General Manager of Vinylplus.

Thanks to Vinylplus’s unique role in involving an entire chain, the voluntary commitment has managed to recycle over 4 million tonnes of PVC from 2000. PVC is made up of salt, oil or natural gas and is one of the most widely used plastics in the world with a wide range of applications such as window profiles, tubes, floors, cables, packaging, sports equipment, furniture and medical devices. Ensuring that objectives are achieved is of paramount importance to the success of Vinylplus. The recycled volumes are verified by an independent auditor and presented to the Control Committee of Vinylplus, composed of representatives of the European Commission, the European Parliament, consumer organisations, trade unions, the world Academic and industry.
